I had just come home from the gym today and was eating my lunch on the couch. I usually like to watch something...and the Tyra Show was on. There on stage was a row of 12 girls from ages 13-17. Ten of them were pregnant...and they tried to get that way! I can usually turn the tube off when I'm done eating, but today I was glued. and trying to scrape my jaw off the floor was quite difficult. Are you kidding. I have three kids, and I love them so much, but I would have been and awful mother when I was 13....13! I'm not so sure I'm a good mother now! and I'm 30! I was so disgusted in the way that some of them talked about the multiple abortions they have had...like it was nothing. I usually try to stay away from religion on my blog, but can't the Savior just come to save us from our societal self destruction? Some days I just long for it and I worry about my own two daughters, and my son who hopefully will know how to truly respect women!
One thing my parents did right was to get me so involved. I didn't have time for sex when I was a teenager (or in college either, just in case you were wondering). I had dance 3 times a week, voice lessons, group lessons, performances...add on top of that homework..and I didn't have time to think about hanky-panky. So THANK YOU mom and dad! I never really realized how you saved me from a lifetime of trouble. Of course I made my own decisions too, but you kept me in line and I love you for it! SO MUCH!
Sorry for the soap box! I just had to give my 2 cents.

Heather, I just recently heard about a similar thing, a "club" of high school girls with the mission of becoming pregnant, like it was some kind of a game. It was here in Utah and they say the teenage pregnancy rate has soared off the charts. I feel the same as you, it makes my stomach just churn. I feel lucky as well for good parents, maybe that is the only answer. How sad for the unborn children to have to come to this confusing world under such circumstances.
I'm with you in your thoughts,
Betty
I'll bet you wish you could have that hour of your life back:)
Know a 11 year old that had a baby here last year. The Father was 40 and her father's best friend. BIG YUCK!!! So sad.
Sheri - I hope they're not still best friends!
Betty - What the heck are kids thinking! Maybe we should go back to chastity belts!
